How To Enable / Disable Shut Down Button In Log- Off Screen?

Many freeware applications often play with registry of your PC (that is why mostly they are not recommended) without your consent and eventually results in many outcomes which are undesired. For example you have installed an application after downloading from a “Freeware” website and now when you move to log-off screen you see that there is no Shut Down button at all.
This is actually happens due to change of key values in your registry. You can manually change the value to revert back the changes. Here is how you can enable / disable Shut Down button on the log-on screen:

  1. Go to the Start menu, type regedit in Run and press the Enter key fast. This will open the registry editor;
  2. Navigate to the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ System;
  3. Double click on the key ShutdownWithoutLogon;
  4. Set the key value to 0 to disable the shutdown button on the logon screen;
  5. Set the key value to 1 to enable the off button on the logon screen.
And you are done. You have rolled back the changes. You can enable / disable the Shut Down button this way at any time. Moreover the changes are instantaneous; you don’t need any restart. Users of higher versions of Windows 7 can do the same by simply but using gpedit.msc instead of regedit.
