Giving Links On Wikipedia For Gaining Backlinks Is Useless

Due to universally editable structure of Wikipedia, there is always a threat of link spamming. Links of a website on other websites count as a vote for that website. Moreover, host websites’ reputation also carries value in determining the strength of that vote. Most of the search engines consider this factor now-a-days. These links commonly known as backlinks serve as a backbone for strengthening online appearance of any website.
Due to this there is a risk from spammers that they may chop links of their websites in Wikipedia as anybody can edit it.But now it’s no need to worry, because after the release of rel=”nofollow” attribute. If any link is followed by a nofollow tag in its Html code then it tells the search engine not to take into account, the following link as backlink.
Wikipedia uses rel="nofollow" tag due to which no external link will be able to transfer Page Rank of Wikipedia. So placing link for the sole purpose of betterment of website rank is useless now.
