A lot has been written on
the topic of Windows Xp optimization, But Windows 7 has been ignored a lot in
terms of optimization techniques. Lot of users has shifted to Windows 7 because
of cool interface. We all like transparency effects, and other goodies. The
interface is very much interactive. We are giving a brief bunch of tips which
may prove fruitful for accelerating the Windows 7 interface.
Visual Effects and Sounds
We all like the transparent
and attractive Windows 7 interface. But the problem is that many users do not
comply with the least requirements. Unnecessary and heavy visual effects cause
an excessive burden on RAM especially. Moreover if your video card is not able
to support the bulky graphics, you should turn the visual effects off.
How to Turn Off Visual
Effects in Windows 7:
To do this we must perform
the following steps:
1. Right click on My Computer and go to Properties.
2. Select from the right sidebar, Advanced System Settings.
3. In the Performance section, select Settings.
4. Uncheck the visual effects that you want to turn off.
Although sounds do not take
much of the processing and memory of your machine, but it is advisable to
switch off the sound effects also.
How to Turn Off Sounds in
Windows 7:
1. Log into Control Panel and click on the Sound icon.
2. From the window that opens, select the Sounds tab.
3. Finally, you can turn off the sounds you want.
Installation of Required
Softwares Only
You should install soft-wares
which are required. Unused soft-wares serve as a useless burden on memory of
your machine. Moreover the Unnecessary applications and soft-wares on your hard
drive slows down your system, as the system requires more time to find any
required application to run from a large list of applications and data stored.
Disable unnecessary services
Windows have services which
run constantly, while they are not needed. You can save some of your resources
by turning them off. You can check this if you want to know which services can
be turned off and how.
Disable Start-up
Applications
Start-up applications are
those which automatically bubble up when you boot, every time. For
example many applications such as Update launcher of for many programs
automatically stick themselves to start-up menu.
Most of the applications at
startup are not used by most users. So it is advisable to only keep programs
like anti-virus and like, to keep at startup menu. This will help you to reduce
some seconds for booting time.
How to disable Start-up
Applications?
1. Click on the start button on the taskbar, and select Run.
Alternatively you can press Ctrl + R from your keyboard, a window will bubble
up.
2. Type “msconfig” without quotes and press enter.
3. Uncheck the unwanted Windows applications from start-up menu.
4. Click Ok and restart your computer.
Optimize Your Hard Disk
Drive
Enable write
caching on the device
This option is enabled by
default, but you can check if it is not for you. Increase your performance by enabling write caching on the disk.
Your activation requires
additional steps:
1. Right click on my computer and select properties.
2. In the right sidebar, click Device Manager.
3. Search for Disk Drives, select and open their properties.
4. You can enable or disable this option.
Defragment Your
Hard Drive
Defragmenting
the disk allows reading files much faster, in addition to the programs run
more smoothly. The access time is decreased as defragmentation places the data
over hard drive contiguously. You can use Windows Defragmenter, but many third
party tools are also available which provide additional options.
Remove unnecessary
registry files
Windows keeps a record of
lot of registry entries that come in part from uninstalled programs. These
entries eventually accumulate there. All of these unnecessary entries slows
down your computer and can also result in system errors.
To counter this problem,
there are several programs that clean the registry by removing invalid or
duplicate references.
